The HP LaserJet 4000n Printer - A Tireless Performer For The Office

By

One member of Hewlett Packard's 4000 series of black-and-white lasers is the HP4000N LaserJet Printer. This has dual connectivity slots for trouble-free attachment to an office network. Upgrading certain specifications is possible to enhance productivity. It can handle a variety of media kinds, weights, and measurements. In addition, within it are some advanced printing technologies which provide impressive printouts each and every time.

Powering it up is a 100-MHz single chip RISC, or Reduced Instruction Set Computer, processor. This allows the unit to have a 17 ppm (pages per minute) speed. Initially, an 8-MB RAM comes installed with it. However, there are as many as 3 DIMM slots fitted onto its body. This allows you to upgrade it to a 100-MB memory so additional fonts, printer languages, and macros can further improve performance.

Two media trays make it possible to achieve larger input handling capacity. There's a 100-sheet tray and another 500-sheet tray. Media kinds supported include paper (bond, glossy, recycled, rough, etc.), transparencies, envelopes, card stocks and labels. Anywhere from 16 lb to 53 lb of media weight is possible to be used. Compatible media measurements include custom (3 in x 5 in to 8.5 in x 14 in), legal, letter and executive.

Attachment to an office network is simple as there are two available enhanced I/O (EIO) slots. One is a bidirectional parallel IEEE 1284 port, and the other is a hi-speed Ethernet 10 Base-TX/100 Base-TX card. The 4000n comes with a monthly duty cycle of up to 65,000 impressions. This number, as set by Hewlett Packard, is recommended to be maintained to ensure optimum printer performance. Otherwise, replacement of consumables or supplies has to be done frequently.

To render text and graphics in documents with much clarity, there's a 1,200 x 1,200 dpi (dots per inch) resolution within it. The HP FastRes 1200 works with such to churn out professionally rendered printouts without slowing down the machine. Adding to the quality performance is the new kind of HP toner. Achieving realistic monochrome images is possible, thanks to the 220 level of gray shades available.

The body of this laser has a dimension of 16.77 in x 15.4 in x 18.5 in (depth x width x height), and it weighs 45.66 lb. There's a control panel on the top part of the unit. It contains a few large buttons for hassle-free operation, plus there's a 2-line LCD screen that displays clearly printer options, status, and some other information.

Because of the Instant-On fuser inside it, the first page out is ejected in just a matter of 12 seconds. With other units, this is just part of the warm up time. Such allows you to get to your print tasks right away. There's PostScript level 2 and HP PCL 6 language emulations installed. The box contains a CD-ROM which contains some useful software. Such include, Disk Image Maker, FontSmart, ToolBox, Jetadmin and printer language drivers.

This device is capable of providing your day-to-day documents with professional quality. Use HP toner with this device, and you'll get crisp and professional documents while minimizing the amount of times you'll need to change the cartridges. Hooking it up to an office network is easy, thanks to the couple of connectivity slots. What's more, this black-and-white laser type of printer has enough room for upgrading to help meet the needs of today's demanding workplace.
